Poverty Analysis Guideline

How do you use Poverty Analysis?

There are a wide number of approaches, methodologies and tools for the undertaking of poverty analysis. The type and depth of poverty analysis appropriate will be determined, among other things, by the level of partner planning processes it is to inform, the sufficiency of existing analysis and information and, in the case of NZAID Activities, the size, modality and timeframe of the proposed Activity (among other things).

Several major approaches and methodologies for poverty analysis are set in Annex 1, along with the specifics of what they are, why they are used and when they should be used.

Guidance on how to do a Country Poverty Profile is given in Annex 2 and key questions for developing a Country Poverty Profile are given in Annex 3.

For more specific guidance on when to undertake a poverty analysis, what approach or methodology to use, the depth of analysis appropriate, and the specifics of how to do it, contact the relevant NZAID Advisor.
